Day 2 was spent visiting their famous... erm "shopping" areas, mainly Chatuchak market, Chinatown and Memorial Bridge Night Market. Probably walked for almost the whole day and all of us were totally exhausted by the day that there was no bonding activity at all. Arghh... I almost thought maggot-eating will make a very good forfeit. But nevertheless, everybody took a bite (right?)

Start the day right by eating Fried Rice

mil call this the "Rattatouille" station
the very rare mixed rice photo

Victory Monument that we never got the chance to visit
a "small" portion of the "very big" Chatuchak Market
luckily for us, we managed to find transport in this CTC market
of course, we are not stuck in a jam like this (but almost close since there are too many people around)

a girl's favourite shoe shop - they draw the designs on the shoes, not print them

Guess what are these? see below for answers
OMG! an entire shop selling knives, swords of all sizes
coke bottles of different shapes
zhiqin wanted to buy one of these back for bathing
all of us were fascinated at this roast duck
upclose at this "fake duck" that is made of clay?

busking on the streets
1 pot of shark fin soup at 350bht
Look at their huge shark fins
famous pork floss shop in thai

chinatown at night

i was having so much fun at this foot massage shop

Memorial Bridge Night Market

Fried maggots, crickets, worms

tons of wholesale flowers at their night market
xia says 100 roses are sold for only S$2
Day 3 was all about shopping once more. But at different malls this time. It'll be super boring if we visit the same places more than twice. (Oops... I forgot we went Platinium Mall almost 4 times. haha)

There isn't really much photos today because I don't have a camera yet. My birthday's coming in 5 more days so I'll be extremely elated if some "camera" pop up as a big surprise. lol. We spent our 3rd day roaming MBK, Zen Central World etc. to buy all the shopping stuff. I can't remember what I bought (maybe nothing) but I do remember ZQ spending 1 hour choosing sunglasses with xia's brother. The shop owner and I waited until our faces changed.

Photos taken from xia's blog.

This is super memorable- yellow shirt thais heading out for a protest. We too wanted to join in the fun but shopping's more important
Lunch at Fuji Japanese restaurant (as recommended in the forums)

As the girls went for their manicure & pedicure at 29 Plaza, we headed out to change money and out came this heavy rain that trapped us in the money changer's outlet. We watched a tiny bit of Euro2008 there before we headed out back into the heavy rain to pass them the money. Girls, those are hard-to-get money. Erm... I forgot where we had dinner but I think all of us are too engrossed shopping that we forgotten to eat.
If I'm not wrong, we had dinner back at our hotel. This is where ZQ and delon were so engrossed trying to solve our puzzle pieces. It's a long story how these puzzles came about. Melodie and I started this bet that each of us buy a "level 6" IQ puzzle (which is the hardest level) and whoever solves the opponent's puzzle first shall pay for the cost of both puzzles. So we ended up buying them and playing over dinner.

Their super expensive 10bht per 5 min internet service

ZQ acting hero and trying to solve the puzzle

delon joining in the fun with his mathematical/logic calculations

On a side note, that puzzle of mine is still at home collecting dust. My whole family had tried but none of us could solve it , either by logic or chance. We are still wondering whether there is in fact any solution to it, since there is no answer sheet when we bought them. arghh...
Day 4 was about sightseeing (finally). Supposed to visit the "famous" floating market and we saw something that "resembles" it. The day started off as the "trying-hard-to-get-lost" day, we didn't get lost but fortunately we did experience that sense of loss when we ended up somewhere which we don't even know. Fortunately for us, heroic ZQ came to our rescue and led us out to meet the rest.

At the jetty before our floating market tour

I still don't know the name of this bridge
Or the name of this statue

On board the boat to the floating market
random pictures of the scenery
random pictures again

one of the floating market vendors

HDB in thailand??

Smiling face that convinced us to buy singha beer for the boatman

rural life by the river

their fishes are like the length of my arms
a rare picture of the boatman who specially sail slowly because of that singha beer treat

Grand Palace from the other side of the river

one very small portion of the Grand Palace

Ministry of Defence? (i forgotten the place)
In the end, it was a fun trip just walking and eating.
Everytime we have to experience the adrenaline rush of missing our flight back. I don't know whether this is good or not, but it's so EXCITING. Really suits our mixedrice theme song. Somehow even when we managed to book the night flight back (learning from experience never to choose early flight because we are always late), accidents like this still happen.

The flight was supposed to be at 8pm, we thought we had lots of time left after we checked out at 12, so we went to Let's Relax for foot massage again. But then, by the time we are done, it was already 5.30pm and we remembered the airport counter opens 2 hours before departure. All of us had a big shock and rushed our way to the airport.

But there were traffic jams everywhere because it was the peak period. We almost thought we couldn't make it and started planning for contingency plans. Fortunately for us we ended up on time.

Let's Relax - just like the one in Phuket

I wouldn't be laughing so happily then if we missed our flight again

9 people squeezing into 1 cab after realising we are super late

traffic jams like this always cause us lots of troubles, we even thought of implementing ERP there if we are the government

fortunately for us we managed to check in our luggages on time because the flight was delayed
But our nightmare didn't end here, after we successfully checked in our luggages. We thought there was still time left so we wandered about in the airport. But bad things always happen. We coincidentally decided to walk to the furthest end of the airport, and decided to have our dinner.

Just as we finished ordering, delon said, "erm... do you know what time we have to be at the departure area?"
Me:" Ya la. By the check in time lo. The plane leaves at 8.40pm what."
Delon:" I thought we have to reach there 1/2 hour before departure?" takes out the boarding pass and saw this instruction labelled in it. "what time is it now?"
Me (horrified face):" 8.10pm!"
We immediately paid the money without eating and ran almost 1km back, with fear in our eyes. Imagine the din we caused when 9 of us rushed out of the restaurant without eating, and running like mad. Everyone was like staring at us but we didn't care. We don't want to miss our flight this time. Especially without our luggages and empty pockets. We almost couldn't make it back.

exhausted faces after running that mini-sprint
We did get back safely this time. But ZQ kept complaining about the mango sticky rice that he so wanted to bring back to singapore. Oh well, that should serve a lesson for all of us : Time Management.
That's all for our another exciting MR siblings edition bangkok trip. Looking forward to next time.

I'm back from the OMG! camp at PGP. It's been a pretty good experience getting to learn how to handle secondary school kids and I'm so exhausted that I could do with some more sleep.

To the organising committee, I want to see the photos quick! haha

I'm doing the post for the mixedrice bankok trip currently, it'll be up soon when I'm not that busy and have enough sleep.

Till then.

Friday, June 27, 2008

I'm off to to the Outstanding Mindful Generation (OMG) Camp organised by the CDAC from 27-29 June.

Will update when I'm back.

Saturday, June 21, 2008

I'm so busy after the bangkok trip that I neither have the time to blog nor view the bangkok photos on facebook.

I shall keep it short. Working at the Mango Sale at Shaw for two days and its super tiring (maybe I've been slacking around too much beforehand). Other than work (which occupies almost everyday of the week), I'm preparing for the OMG camp next friday to sunday, so I'll be away too.

I'll blog about the rest when I'm free. I haven't even unpacked my luggage yet. arghh...

Away to Bangkok 14-18th June

I don't know if you guys like economics jokes, but I do enjoyed them very much. This three jokes are super funny, The stock market illustrated, This is how business is done and Marketing Concepts.

I can't stop laughing everytime I read them. If anyone has more jokes to share, please send me the links.

Credits to oikonomia for these fantastic posts. It's 3 more days to mixedrice trip (bangkok), and I'm getting so excited.

Even this test shows that Psychology/Sociology is destined to be the path I must take. Too bad it doesn't differentiate between psychology and sociology. That way, I'll be more firm with sticking around with psychology. Arghh... no wonder maths is my arch enemy (13%). LOL.

WHAT MAJOR IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
created with QuizFarm.com
You scored as Psychology/Sociology

You should strongly consider majoring (or minoring) in Psychology, Sociology, or related majors (e.g., Counseling, Industrial-Organizational (I-O) Psychology, Social Work, or other social science majors).

It is possible that the best major for you is your 2nd, 3rd, or even 5th listed category, so be sure to consider ALL majors in your OTHER high scoring categories (below). You may score high in a category you didnt think you would--it is possible that a great major for you is something you once dismissed as not for you. The right major for you will be something 1) you love and enjoy and 2) are really great at it.

Consider adding a minor or double majoring to make yourself standout and to combine your interests. Psychology and Sociology are both great minors to add to any major. Please post your results in your myspace/blog/journal.

It's a joyous occassion yesterday.

Attended another wedding ceremony of my JI/PJ friend, amanda at the People's Bible Church yesterday. I must first congratulate Amanda & Aaron for inviting me to their wedding, and I sincerely wished them marital happiness.

Anyway, it was the first Christian wedding that I attended in real life. In the past, my only impression of a church wedding came from the numerous television shows I watched. I couldn't feel what it is like to be there someday. Yesterday was the first, and definitely not the last, more to come soon (I hope). The atmosphere of joy and blessings is indeed magnificant and wonderful, as everyone prayed for happiness for these two individuals who have joined together in holy matrimony.

It's definitely much better than the registering the marriage at the ROM. Photos will be up when I get them.

Friends appear to be getting married soon in these few years, so I'm expecting church bells to start ringing again in the near future.

I decided to do something interesting (or maybe a waste of time).

I'm currently looking for writer wannabes/bloggers to help me kickstart this new blog Project X. This is my first attempt into doing something novel like this. Apparently, I decided to experiment this online story writing where everyone can contribute a paragraph or more into this story. I don't know how it will end up, maybe if there is too much spam, I'll just close it or set it private.

But firstly I need some supporters to start off this activity.

Let's see how much creative talents we have around this blogsphere.

Tuesday, June 03, 2008

It suddenly dawned onto me that the things I have been chasing all my life (paper certificates, the newest mp3, the nicest clothes, most interactive online games, lots of money, unlimited wants) are material possessions and these will eventually disappear someday.

What is this emptiness that I feel sometimes? It's almost like entering into a trance-like state and waking up suddenly and wonder if life has been worthwhile.

What is it that I want to achieve in this short lifespan? Happiness, like most people. But where can I find this happiness?

I'm sure it is somewhere. It has to be somewhere.

Someone must have achieved that "happiness" that I'm looking for, otherwise this term should be non-existent. If it can be conceived, it must have existed somehow.

I'm still quite vague about the kind of happiness I'm seeking. But I can be sure that it is not the kind that people always see in the television - happiness that comes when they have a loving family, job satisfaction, beautiful girlfriend, religion, self-indulgement etc.

I'm looking for an even higher-ordered happiness. And I shall continue reflecting till I find what I seek.

The results are out and as usual, it fell short of my own expectations. I wasn't expecting much, only to get that 3.5 cap score so that I can have a chance to go for honours. arghh.... guess I'm not working harder enough.

On a side note, it is an improvement compared to my previous semester. At least there is no C this time round (and no A this time too). Maybe I should just go back to studying what I'm really good in (Geography) instead of doing all these modules with no basic background at all.

I remembered meeting my former classmate once, and she is quite shocked I didn't do geography either. But that's just me, I always prefer to do something new.

That's why I ended up being the jack of all trades, and a master of none. But I believe I'll make my mark someday.

My lousy phone is spoilt. So if anyone wants to contact me, either send me email, IM or call my house number. It's so inconvient without a handphone these days. I have almost forgotten the old times when I could survive without one. Technology has fully invaded my life. arghhh...

But yet again, another good reason to get a new one during this GSS sale!

Night-cycling yesterday night was tiring but fun. Despite being a 100% local, this is still the first time I travelled to these different places and routes. Felt a little guilty knowing that I know so little of my own homeland.

our travel route, adapted from mixedrice blog

Basically we accomplished more than our expected distance, and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. We travelled from east coast to geylang, to singapore flyer, to esplanade, to lau pat sat, to chinatown, to clarke quay, to orchard, to indoor stadium then back to east coast. Other than all the sore backs, arms and butts, everything is still quite successful. Kudos to the planners of this event, delon and xia.

Let's plan a different route next time. Photos will be up when I received them. I'm having high expectations of the high quality photos from that expensive SLR.

For now, it's supper time with my supper gang.

I live on the 9th floor and there was this power failure today that caused the entire lift system to stop working. I ended up having to climb up and down several times and this caused a lot of inconvenience.

I was panting like hell whenever I had to climb up these stairs (could also be due to my lack of exercise) and this power failure definitely made me realise how fortunate my life has been till now. We often take for granted the little things that made our life so much better and easier.

Fortunate Singaporeans like me should not complain about how slow the lift may take next time.

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Nothing much to do these days. Can't seem to find any suitable job yet, so I'm basically staying at home surfing the net or at the gym.

Currently reading Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray ,which has been lying on the bookself since last year. This is also the book that I need to complete to fulfil the book quota for the month of May.

Summary of books read for the year
Jan - Victor Hugo - Les Miserables
Feb - Gaston Leroux - The Phantom of the Opera
Mar - Emily Bronte - Wuthering Heights
Apr - George Orwell - 1984
May - Oscar Wilde - The Picture of Dorian Gray

I'm quite pissed off after reading the newspaper these days. Especially when there are numerous reports of "fake" Red cross volunteers, looters, thieves and black-hearted medical personnels.

Apparently, these people have been trying to profit from the Sichuan earthquake, when so many others have lost their everything. Fake volunteers are collecting funds in the name of helping out the victims, looters are stopping vehicles sent to the affected zones and emptying truckloads of rations to be given to the victims, thieves stealing jewelleries from demolished buildings, and doctors asking for exorbitant fees for operations are making the headlines these days.

Just when I was praising those that rose beyond themselves to help those around, some others are doing this kind of immoral acts.

Wait till someday they experienced the helplessness when they needed help the most. Fancy them to steal from the victims. They deserve to go to hell.

(pardon me for the improper words, I'm just too angry at these people)

Sunday, May 18, 2008

After planning for the next session of Club Gusto in Yuhua and having visited CG in Yuying where I observed the kids interactions with the volunteers, I learnt more about the need for communication and patience from everyone there. I'm already full of anticipation about the kind of challenges that awaits me.

I'm still looking for volunteers, interested parties can contact me.

If you have the time, do read this blogpost about the Project Sangkhem which I'm going for at the end of the year. I hope I can achieve much after this trip too.

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Today is the second day of the Sichuan Eathquake and reports have said that the death toll is currently at 20,000 (Lianhe Wanbao, 14.5.08). Seeing the photos of surviving members searching frantically for their loved ones brings a chill down my heart.

One of the articles in the paper that really shocked me was the one that says "Wenchuan 60,000 missing out of their total 100,000 population." I can't imagine almost the half the population in the city gone just like that.

This incident is so serious that even China's Premier Wen personally attended to the causalties in these affected areas. There is great difficulty sending aid to the less-known villages because most of them are in the mountainous regions and transportation is delayed due to poor weather conditions. Rescue workers are trekking on foot to these affected areas, but because of the lack of excavation machinery, they can only do it manually, thus longer time to save these buried people.

The strength of human character is put to the test.

While I penning down this in the blog, others are fighting for their lives in these areas. There must be something I can do to help these people.

The only thing I can do now is to look up at the sky and hope for the best.

My sisters' godmother came and visited us today and shared a lot of her overseas experience with me.

She has been an avid traveller since young and has travelled to lots of places, with groups and alone. She taught me a lot about her backpacking trips to NZ, Germany, Thailand, China, Japan, Malaysia and I'm really motivated to be like her. Being able to go to so many places to see the world is like a impossible dream for me, but she showed me that we can do lots of backpacking with limited budgets.

I'm really impressed by her adventurous spirit and she's inviting to me to go Xiamen together in 2 weeks time. Hmm... It's a little rush with the bangkok trip soon and so little time to prepare, so I'm still hesitant.

But she told me there isn't really a lot to prepare, just do it. She just decided to go like 2 days ago.

Wow. When can I ever be that decisive in the things I do?

Saturday, May 10, 2008

Having attended the talk by Kelvin (a fellow volunteer for almost 30 years), I'm inspired by his passion and committment to his responsibilities. Someday I wish to be the one to share my experiences as a volunteer too.

The organisation I joined this time is pretty different from the usual volunteering services. There is more responsibility on the role of the volunteers themselves because the staff at CDAC only support the activities, not the other way round, where the staff plan events and look for volunteers to carry it out. We are the ones who plan for the weekly events in the school so that these students can carry out their NYAA activities.

There is a shortage of volunteers right now, because we (currently 3 person) are starting out everything from scratch in the new school. So anyone who feels like volunteering and is able to commit their saturdays to do so please contact me.

On the side note, even though the activities are held on saturdays (10-1), the planning is much more complicated and time consuming.

But I'm not giving it up yet.

The exams are finally over!

Now I have the time to catch up on the fun activities that I neglected. Windsurfing is the top of the list and I wanna go out and enjoy the sun, the beach and the sea once again. Reading fiction books is also something I promised myself to do every month too. Bangkok trip is still a month away and I'm already full of anticipation and excitment.

Of course, other than volunteering and outdoor activities, I still need to find a job so I can still keep up the expensive hobbies. So I appreciate any recommendations for jobs.

That's all for now, I catching up on the One Piece anime that I missed out during the exam period. It's going to be a great week ahead (I hope so)!

Saturday, May 03, 2008

Today's psychology paper is probably the hardest paper for my entire exam. First there is the negative marking for the 100 MCQs , then the short answer section they expect half a page answer for 5 questions worth 10 marks each. No choice is given so I have to do it no matter what.

One of the question was like " A new virus affects the cellular wall of a neuron in the occipital lobe of the brain. The virus causes the neuron wall to become "leaky" during the process. 1)When the neuron is at rest (eg. not firing), does sodium ions leak out of the neuron or leak into the neuron? 2) The virus causes a one of the senses (sight, smell, hearing, taste etc) to suffer from a defect, identify which human sensory experience is disrupted by this new virus and what are the consequences on this person's sensory experience?" [10 marks]

I forgot what is the exact phrasing of this question since I couldn't get to keep the question paper, but it should be something like this.

I seriously have no idea how to "smoke" half a page to answer this. I wrote like 3 lines :x

Friday, May 02, 2008

My weekend life has sure gotten more meaningful after signing for volunteer work.

And this is not the usual old-folks home/orphanage visit. Instead this is a mentoring session with students, helping them develop their potential through the NYAA award activities like (1) physical recreation and sports, (2) community service, (3) expedition/exploration, (4) skills development.

This means I'll be joining in the fun with them. Lol. A little pity that I'm not doing the NYAA Gold when there are so activities around in school for me to join.

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Today is the last episode for "Life made Simple" or simply the "Ah Wang" show that's on Channel 8 at 7pm.

I'm totally touched by his heart of gold. If everyone was like him, the world will be a much happier place. Reaffirmed my views that cherishing everyone around you brings you more happiness.

"Every man rejoices twice when he has a partner in his joy. He who shares tears with us wipes them away. He divides them in two, and he who laughs with us makes the joy double." - Bishop Fulton J. Sheen

oh man, I'm craving for love right now. where is the love??

Saturday, April 26, 2008

And the econs paper will start in 4 hours, it's time to get ready for final obstacle. I better achieve my expected 3.7 to bring up that pathetic cap score of mine from last sem.

Good luck to me!

Thursday, April 24, 2008

There is this Second Life craze going around and our school actually has its own portal. Out of curiosity, I decided to log on and try it this virtual experience.

But the server keeps on crashing, so much so that I gave up and uninstalled everything. Oh well, maybe its fate that I'm supposed to start revising for my exams instead of doing this.

Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Decided to change my blog skin after using the nostalgia theme for almost three years.

This also signify a new start to the blog. It's time to look ahead into the future, instead of isolating myself in my own fantasy world. There will be more abstract thinking and personal reflections over issues instead of just reminiscing and grumble over how reality is so different from my expectations. It's time to brave the new world.

Of course, that doesn't mean that I don't treasure old stuff anymore.

Monday, April 21, 2008

Life shouldn't be all about studying for the exams. Tomorrow is Earth Day. This year my personal goal is to help to cut down the amount of CO2 emission into our atmosphere. (CO2 emission is one of the main causes for global warming)

Reduce the amount of paper use can help to cut down on the number of trees felled to produce the paper. In case you still don't know, Trees play an extremely important role in absorbing the amount of CO2.

Convince my parents to take more public transport instead of driving on certain days. If more people can forgo their cars for buses, the number of CO2 emission from exhaust fumes will be greatly reduced.

Cut down on electricity usage not only saves you money from expensive bills, it also helps to conserve the limited oil supply that we have. Of course, coal generators also contribute a lot of CO2.

It's time to do your part for the environment again. Every little action counts in creating a sustainable environment for our future.

Are you happy with your life?

After watching this video in psychology lecture - Why are we happy? Why aren't we happy? (Dan Gilbert) I'm quite sure that contentment can indeed bring some form of happiness.

But I didn't know you can actually create sythetic happiness. If everyone are contented with their own lot in life, the capitalist system of economy will sure fail. Since the capitalist economy is still here, it mean that our wants are indeed unlimited. Maybe its our innate nature to keep wanting newer things?

Maybe that's why most people are never contented, thus never happy? (This is only based on the assumption that material wants can create happiness, there are always exceptions. So please don't terrorise my blog because of this article.)

Friday, April 11, 2008

I found out that I'm developing a strong interest in social issues as well as politics. Seeing how recent events can be explained using sociological theories seem to provide me with an answer to the persistence of certain social problems.

Now I'm actually contemplating whether to do sociology instead of psychology.

Wednesday, April 09, 2008

Headed down to xia's communications school for her video production viewing yesterday. They had to create a 1 minute video for their project and there was this public viewing by their cohort peers for their final presentation.

I was quite impressed by some of their productions, especially the "running", "lego mas", "skirtties" just to name a few. Most of them have a certain standard so it was a fruitful experience watching them. It's quite a pity that these videos are only 1 minute long, it's abit short to fully portray a good plot.

And who says Singaporeans lack creativity? Definitely an eye-opener yesterday at NTU. Keep up the good work!

Thursday, April 03, 2008

Okie, I'm almost going bonkers with this sociology project. It's about time I start to chew on dictionaries again to improve on my vocabulary. It's tough work trying to rephrase sentences in order to cut down on the word count.

Just to test your proficiency in English, how many V words in this paragraph can you explain the meaning of it without any external reference?

"Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.

The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.

Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V."
-adapted from V for Vendetta.

I must confess I only know like only half of these V words. lol.

What will the world be like in the Year 3000?

p.s Don't think I'm going crazy, I'm just inspired to think about the kind of society we will have in the future. Especially when I ponder over futuristic settings in Orwell's 1984, Huxley's Brave New World, Burgess's A Clockwork Orange, Alan Moore's V for Vendetta and Plato's Republic.

Can we eventually create a utopia?

Sunday, March 30, 2008

And the setbacks just keeping on pressurizing me. Oh man, I can't imagine my econs will ever join in the ranks of "in serious trouble" modules. The third module that I fared way below average.

Either the people in sch are too smart that they're pushing up the difficulty of examinations or I'm simply not well prepared for uni life yet.

After reading through this article on "Lament of the Median Student" on ST March 28, I'm beginning to wonder if the former is a more likely cause.

Sometimes this bell curve concept only serve to segregate the students even more.

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

Another variation of the Crisis at Sea scenario. psychologists & sociologists sure like to find out people's moral reaction in time of crisis.

If a ship is going to sink in the middle of the ocean, there is only 1 lifeboat that can only save 5 person, who will you save?

(pls rank your choice from 1-10, 1 being the one you will most likely save and 10 being least likely - extremely important!)

1) Alice: handicapped, jobless, 22.
2) Ellen: airforce pilot, SAF scholar, 30.
3) Charles: wife-beater, strong, loudmouth.
4) Doreen: wife of Charles, sickly.
5) Greg: history of drug abuse, just divorced.
6) Francis: retiree, savouring present life.
7) Harriet: potential cap 5.0 undergraduate,20.
8) Iris: mother of 2, former canoeist.

pick your choices and give reason for your choice. Have fun choosing.

(ps. this time round you are not involved in the sinking ship, you just happen to be able to choose who to live and who not to)

After meeting up with the mixedrice for steamboat on Good Friday, it's time to study again.

I'm struck with another blow when my new media mid term performed less than my expectations. Considering that the paper wasn't very difficult, I can only blame overconfidence and carelessness for messing everything up.

This is the second time my result performed lower than the average mean. arghh... what is happening??

Maybe I don't really have a lot of free time. Instead of procrastinating over whether to play or study, I ought to come to a decision and settle for studying, especially when I saw my disappointing results again.

This time round, it's psychology that's pulling my grades now. I can't afford to screw up my major modules again.

After spending time doing my sociology mid test, I found out how shallow my scope of understanding of everything I have to learn. And it is no joking matter, considering the stiff competition and the bell curve approach the university uses.

It's study, study and study again.

Economics paper is so weird, the department actually gives 1.5hrs to do 30 MCQ questions, and the paper looks easy on the surface. It's either the questions are too tricky that's why the time given is so long or the examiners are just way too nice.

I shall not care about that for now, time to prepare for the sociology paper coming up next.

These days instead of studying for my econs and sociology to prepare for the mid terms on friday, I ended up spending my time trying to solve the rubix cube.

After playing around for a week, I still can't get it right. And I absolutely refused to read the online solutions (it defeats the entire purpose) I shall solve it ultimately.

Spent the remaining of my time reading Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights, so that I can fulfil the 1 book per month 2008 resolution. The book is fantastic and i'm totally engrossed in it.

50 more pages and I'm done.

I didn't know economics apply in such cases too. Here's a funny example from my lecture.

The Prisoners' Dilemma

The Story
Bonnie and Clyde were caught and charged for a crime.
The police take them into separate rooms, where each prisoner must decide to either to confess or not to confess without knowing what the other prisoner will do.

Rules
The police tell each prisoner that they have collected enough evidence to send both to prison for 3 years. (i.e if both do not confess, the prosecution will be based on this evidence)

If only one prisoner confesses and testifies against the other, that prisoner will get only 1 year and the other will get 8 years.

If both confess, each will get 5 years.

What should they do in this case? To confess or not to confess?

Ahhh... The two mid-term exams are over and done with. All I need to do now is to finish my two mid-term papers this friday and hurray, off for a holiday.

Haha. I don't really have the time to go for holidays though, just spending some time at my grandma's house to relax. The best thing is there's no computers or internet there, guess I'll cope with it somehow. People nowadays are spending too much time on their computers, it's time to get back with the real reality. Too much radiation from these technological stuff kills off lots of brain neurons.

I'll glad take this opportunity and get back with nature, while reading the book from Dalai Lama. That's how life should be.

Lol, I'm already dreaming. It's time to work hard and enjoy the break that comes after that.

Still mugging for my new media and psy mid terms. Seems that the primacy and recency effect is so true. After all that reading, I can barely remember anything at all.

I better stick to some self-referencing/spacing strategies for studying.

Hope everything ends well tomorrow. I need a break from school.
